Does Ukraine have the weapons to keep fighting Russia? | Global News Podcast

As Vladimir Putin held his annual economic forum in St Petersburg this week, Ukraine carried out strikes on the city, and on ships in the Sea of Azov – proving once again that it can hit targets deep within Russian territory. Ukraine’s increasing ability to launch long and mid-range drone attacks, using relatively inexpensive ordinance, has given them a new edge in the war, analysts say.

But the BBC’s Vitaly Shevchenko tells us that Kyiv desperately needs more weapons – particularly US-made Patriot missile systems, which are now in short supply as a result of the US-Israeli war with Iran.

As Mr Putin talks up Russia’s economic power, we ask what resources Ukraine needs to keep fighting.

On Friday, Vladimir Putin rejected Volodymyr Zelensky’s call for face-to-face talks, saying there was as "no point" in holding such a meeting until peace agreements had been reached. He thanked US President Donald Trump for his efforts to end the conflict, but said there was still work to do.
