Taliban fighters have been parading in the streets as a national holiday has been declared to mark the anniversary.
But the country is experiencing a deepening economic and humanitarian crisis, with many men unable to find work and most girls’ secondary schools closed.
The Taliban retook control of Afghanistan in 2021, two decades after being removed from power by a US-led military coalition.
