Afghan teenage girls ‘broken’ after being barred from attending school under Taliban – BBC News

The Taliban, which returned to power in August 2021, has banned girls above the age of 13 in Afghanistan from attending secondary schools or universities – the only government in the world to do so.

Teenage girls have described feeling "broken" and any hopes they might have had of schools being reopened have been dented by the increasing restrictions the Taliban have imposed on women.

The Taliban have said that schools and universities are only temporarily closed to women and girls until a "suitable environment" can be created.
