It’s nearly seven weeks since the Kabul airlift ended.

The government says it’s still trying to extract vulnerable Afghans left behind by putting diplomatic pressure on the Taliban.

Few among those now in hiding can be in more danger than members of a special intelligence gathering unit that was trained, mentored, and partly funded by the British government.

These people operated the Afghan national system for intercepting mobile phone and internet communications.

Now the Taliban want to re-start that surveillance unit.

Newsnight’s Diplomatic Editor’s Mark Urban has been in contact with several members of it, people, none of whom has received an answer to their pleas for re-settlement in the UK.
