AI chatbots to be included in online UK safety laws | BBC News

UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has pledged to respond more quickly to close loopholes in laws designed to protect children online.

Under new proposals, Artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots would be included in the Online Safety Act.

"Technology is moving really fast, and the law has got to keep up," Sir Keir said, adding that he wanted Britain to be a leader in online safety.

Other new elements proposed include a measure to require tech giants to preserve all of the data on a child’s phone if they die.

But opponents have accused the government of "inaction", and have called for Parliament to be given a vote on the social media ban for children.
