As Kabul falls, backlash against President Biden grow – BBC News

The lightning advance of the Taliban in retaking Afghanistan has led Afghan Americans, former generals and leading statesmen to blame President Joe Biden for a hasty US withdrawal.

To his critics, the president’s decision to wind down America’s longest conflict has undone 20 years of sacrifice, paved the way for a humanitarian catastrophe and called into question US credibility.

But Biden appears to have the public on his side – for now.

As recently as last month, an overwhelming majority of Americans – 70% or more – supported Mr Biden’s withdrawal, according to polls.
