That raid – and others like it across the city – mark a sharp rise in the White House’s efforts to find and deport undocumented migrants.

During his campaign, President Donald Trump repeatedly said he would focus on deporting non-citizens accused of violent crimes. That promise won broad support, even among some Hispanic immigrant groups.

But in recent weeks, the administration has widened its targets, aiming to increase arrests.
