The UN Security Council will vote later on a draft resolution proposed by the US which calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages held by Hamas.
It is the first time the US has supported calls for an immediate ceasefire in the region, having previously blocked such demands by the UN.
Anthony Blinken, the US Secretary of State is heading to Tel Aviv today to continue talks.
