Brazil’s Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has returned to the world stage meeting delegates from the UN at the COP27 climate conference in Egypt.
It’s the first international event attended by President-elect Lula since beating Jair Bolsonaro in the Brazilian 2022 presidential election in October.
Despite not officially taking office until January, Lula arrived at the conference saying, "Brazil is back", claiming climate change will be his number one priority.
Under his predecessor, rates of deforestation across Brazil rose rapidly – but Lula has promised zero deforestation and agencies to police the forests under his leadership.
