BREAKING Air India crash: Pilot cut off fuel to engines – no fault with plane | BBC News

India’s air accident investigation bureau’s preliminary report into the Air India disaster says that one of the pilots turned off the fuel control switches shortly after take-off, cutting off fuel to the plane’s engines and causing them to lose thrust. The report says it has found no significant faults with the plane.

More than 270 people died in the disaster when the Boeing Dreamliner 787 crashed moments after take off from Ahmedabad in India heading from the UK’s Gatwick Airport.

The report says the cockpit voice recordings reveal that one pilot asked the other why they had activated the switches cutting off fuel to the engines.

The passenger jet came down in a densely-populated area less than a minute after clearing the runway, causing devastation and many deaths onthe ground.
