At least 10 people have been killed and 100 injured after two-high speed trains derailed and crashed in southern Spain. At least 25 of the injured are reported to be in a serious condition. Rescue workers are at the scene and searching for survivors in the wreckage.
The accident happened on the main rail line from Malaga to Madrid, near Adamuz, in the province of Cordoba. Adif, the organisation that runs the Spanish rail network, said the accident happened after the IRVO 6189 train left Malaga, heading for the capital. The train is reported to have derailed and collided with a second train travelling from Madrid to Huelva on the adjacent track.
