Children sheltering from Russian bombs in Ukraine – BBC News


“The situation has taken their childhood away.”

Olena Gnes and her three young children aged seven, five and five months are living in a shelter in a basement in Kyiv in order to stay safe from the bombing in the city. Her husband has joined the Ukrainian military to fight against the Russian invasion.

The family have decided to stay in Kyiv. Olena told The BBC “this is my home and I just feel I need to stay here.”
