China’s leader President Xi Jinping is said to have ended poverty in one village by suggesting farmers grow a different type of potato.
Zhangbei in rural northern China is one of the poorer towns said to have experienced an almost miraculous transformation following a visit by Mr Xi, says state media.
China’s leader will soon be given a historic third term in power at the country’s Communist Party Congress, which starts on Sunday.
In the run up to the meeting, the propaganda effort – boosting the president’s image – has been in full swing.
