Colombia decriminalises abortions in first 24 weeks of pregnancy – BBC News

Abortions have been allowed in Colombia in cases of rape, when the woman’s life is at risk, or if the pregnancy is not viable since 2006

But new laws mean that no one will be prosecuted for having an abortion in the first 24 weeks.

Reaction to the decision has been mixed in the mostly Catholic country. Pro-choice activists are celebrating the change in law but the Catholic Church has spoken out against the decision.
