Could giant sewage pipes solve India’s housing crisis? – BBC News

A 23-year-old woman from India has designed micro homes to solve the developing world’s housing crisis – using sewage pipes.

Perala Mansa, a civil engineer from Telangana state, designs "O-Pods" that can be moved between places and only take 15 days to build.

Since building her first model house in 2021, her firm claims to have around 500 orders from hotels and the real estate sector across India.

“Everyone asked me the same question. ‘You are a woman and if you fail in this project, who will be the guarantor for us?’” she said.
