The US says it has offered Russia a deal aimed at freeing basketball star Brittney Griner, who has been charged with drugs offences in the country.
The deal would also see the release of former US marine Paul Whelan.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken says he plans to discuss the arrangement in a phone call with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov – the first such contact between the two since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
