A deadly explosion at a storage depot near the city of Chittagong, Bangladesh, was said to be heard several kilometres away and shattered windows of nearby buildings.
Hundreds of people had arrived at the site in Sitakunda to tackle the fire when a number of shipping containers exploded.
At least 49 people were killed, while Chittagong’s chief doctor has said more than 300 people were injured in total.
Bangladesh’s government has promised a fair investigation into the cause of the fire.
