Donald Trump authorises deployment of 300 National Guard troops in Chicago | BBC News

After being deployed to Portland, Oregon and Washington DC in recent weeks and months, US President Donald Trump has said Chicago is next to have the National Guard sent to its streets.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said the president was abusing his power and that Trump was "attempting to manufacture a crisis".

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said: "Amidst ongoing violent riots and lawlessness, that local leaders like [Gov] Pritzker have refused to step in to quell, President Trump has authorized 300 national guardsmen to protect federal officers and assets".
