US President Donald Trump says Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of his Gaza peace plan, in a major step towards a permanent end to their war.

After three days of intense indirect negotiations in Egypt, Israel and Hamas "signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan", the US president wrote on social media.

Israel’s government is due to vote on the deal on Thursday.
