EU ambassadors are set to hold an emergency meeting later today following US President Donald Trump’s threat to impose tariffs on eight allies who oppose his proposed takeover of Greenland.
Trump said he plans to impose a 10% tariff on goods from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Finland from 1 February – and could later rise to 25%.
His announcement has been met with condemnation from leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who called Trump’s plan "completely wrong”.
Meanwhile, thousands of people have been protesting against Trump’s plans in both Greenland and Denmark.
