Fentanyl epidemic: ‘A near-death experience helped me get clean’ | BBC News


Bryan Emery was a fentanyl addict and lived on the streets of San Francisco for nearly three years.

He spoke to the BBC about his experience in one of the US cities most affected by the opioid crisis – and how he was able to get clean almost a year ago.

Fentanyl is a leading killer in the US – contributing to over 100,000 deaths in 2022, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
