Fighting intensifies – Trump vetoed plan to kill Iran’s Supreme Leader say US officials | BBC News

Israel and Iran have carried out more missile attacks on each other’s territory, as the conflict deepens.

Israel has killed the head of Iran’s armed forces intelligence unit. Iran says more than 200 people have been killed in the Israeli strikes since they began. At least 10 Israelis are reported to have been killed by Iranian missiles.

President Trump has called on the two sides to reach a deal. However Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said: “the issue here is not de-escalation” but rather stopping Iran from developing a nuclear weapons.

Meanwhile US officials have told the BBC’s US partner CBS that Mr Trump recently vetoed an Israeli plan to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
