Planes and train services to and around France have ground to a halt as hundreds of thousands of workers strike across the country.
The protests in Paris and other cities are against the government’s plans to increase the retirement age from 62 to 64.
With the French government showing no sign of backing down on its pension plan, one union leader has warned of escalation and "bringing the country to its knees".
