France’s President Macron hopes China’s President Xi will ‘bring Russia to its senses’ – BBC News

French President Emmanuel Macron has urged his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to use his influence to help stop Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The French leader is on a state visit to China, which has refused to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Macron told Xi he can count on him to “bring Russia to its senses” at the start of talks in Beijing. 

Xi said their two countries had the "ability and responsibility" to safeguard world peace.
