Government authority has all but collapsed, and ordinary Haitians are trapped in a daily struggle for survival

In the past six months, more than 4,000 people have been killed.

More than a million people have been forced to flee their homes, as violence and insecurity spreads.

The Caribbean island nation has been engulfed in a wave of gang violence since the assassination in 2021 of the then-president, Jovenel Moïse.
