How did Helsinki become the mobile gaming capital of the world? – BBC News


Helsinki might not be the first place that comes to mind when considering the world’s tech innovation hotspots.

However, Finland’s relatively quiet capital is home to some of the most ambitious and successful games makers in the world.

The first Angry Bird was flicked across the screen of an iPad in Helsinki, and now Netflix has chosen to set up its first ever internal gaming studio in the city.

As a result, Helsinki is considered by many to be the capital of mobile gaming, an industry currently worth an estimated £120bn to the global economy. But how did this happen?
