Andy Burnham is expected to become the next prime minister of the UK within a matter of days. And he will inherit a host of challenges on the world stage – preserving Britain’s "special relationship" with the US under President Donald Trump; maintaining post-Brexit ties the European Union; managing defence spending in line with Nato targets; and supporting Ukraine in the war with Russia.
We ask the BBC’s UK political correspondent Rob Watson how Mr Burnham’s international strategy could compare with that of the current prime minister, Keir Starmer.
