Hurricane Helene kills at least 116 people across US | BBC News

More than 116 people have died after high winds and torrential winds caused by Hurricane Helene.

Helene – which made landfall in Florida on Thursday – began as a category four hurricane and became the most powerful on record to hit Florida’s Big Bend before moving north into Georgia, the Carolinas and Tennessee.

It was later downgraded to a tropical storm.

Vice President Kamala Harris is due to visit affected areas, the White House said, with Donald Trump due in Georgia later to do the same.
