Hurricane Otis causes ‘chaos’ as it crashes into Mexico’s coast – BBC News

Hurricane Otis has made landfall in southern Mexico, causing severe damage to the Acapulco beach resort.

The hurricane brought wind speeds of up to 165mph (270km/h) after escalating into a category five hurricane as it reached land, with hotel room windows at the resort buckling from the force of the winds and smashing, sucking items out of rooms.

People have been urged to seek safety in emergency shelters, and while the storm is starting to move inland, more heavy rain is forecast, bringing with it the possibility of flooding and landslides.
