Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said in a televised speech that Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) are still preparing for a ground invasion, but did not give any clues as to the timing.
The IDF said military carried out a "targeted raid" in northern Gaza overnight on Wednesday, using tanks and bulldozers to enter the strip.
The IDF said the raid was in "preparation for the next stages of combat".
The UN’s agency for Palestinians has warned that supplies are running low across Gaza, while its humanitarian coordinator says "nowhere is safe".
