Known as one the most provocative and influential designers of the 80s he made the French sailor’s top an iconic fashion staple, pioneered male models wearing skirts, and embraced beauty in all its unconventional forms.

His clothing designs featured heavily in Madonna’s Blonde Ambition Tour and to a whole other generation he was known as the host of the cult TV show ‘Eurotrash’.

Sitting down with Newsnight’s Kirsty Wark, he reflected on his career and some of the many questions embroiling modern day fashion including body shaming and whether ‘prudishness’ is too common now.
