Joe Biden gives first interview since leaving the White House | BBC News

Former US president Joe Biden has given his first interview since leaving the White House, telling the BBC that the pressure put on Ukraine by President Donald Trump to end its war with Russia amounts to "modern-day appeasement".

In his exclusive sit-down with Radio 4’s Today programme, to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, Biden also reflected on the future of the alliance between the US and Europe.

Nick Robinson’s interview with the former president is presented here in full, unedited form. It includes a question about Romania, which we acknowledge contains a factual inaccuracy but have retained in the interests of transparency.
