Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is set to become the first black woman on the US’s highest judicial body, the Supreme Court.

The nine-member court is currently split between six Republican-appointed justices and three picked by Democrats.

Judge Jackson will replace Stephen Breyer, another liberal justice, who is retiring.

A final vote before the 100-member Senate is expected to confirm her nomination by Friday.
