Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe apologises after ‘colonisation’ comments | BBC News

Manchester United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe has said he is sorry his language "offended some people" after he was criticised by UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham for his comments on immigration.

Ratcliffe, who is also founder of one of the world’s largest chemical companies Ineos, told Sky News that the UK has been "colonised" by immigration and cited incorrect figures to back up his claim.

In a statement, the billionaire said: "It is important to raise the issue of controlled and well-managed immigration that supports economic growth."

Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s spokesman says it is "right" that Ratcliffe apologised for his "offensive and wrong" comments.
