Marine Le Pen’s appeal trial begins | Global News Podcast

Last year, the leader of the French far-right National Rally party, Marine Le Pen, was banned from running for public office after being found guilty of embezzling EU funds. It means – as it stands – she is not able to run in next year’s presidential election.

Now, she is appealing that ruling at the Paris Court of Appeal. The case is likely to last around month but a decision is not expected before the summer.

BBC’s Paris correspondent, Hugh Schofield has the background.
