Melania Trump has just reacted to what the FBI are treating as an assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump.
She said the gunman was a "monster", who saw her husband as "an inhuman political machine".
In a statement posted on X, she says her and their son Barron’s lives "were on the brink of devastating change" when she saw "that violent bullet strike my husband".
She says she is thinking of her "fellow Americans", and thanks people across the "political divide" for their support.
One spectator was killed at the rally and two others were critically injured.
