More than 1,100 killed in floods across Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Sri Lanka | BBC News

The death toll in flooding which has struck south-east Asia has reached more than 1,100 with rescue workers battling to reach affected areas.

Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka have all been hit with devastating storms. Hundreds of people are reported missing.

In Indonesia the floods, caused by a rare cyclone that formed over the Malacca Strait, have impacted some 1.4 million people, according to the government’s disaster agency.

The provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra have been hardest hit, with thousands still cut off and without critical supplies.

Aid workers have been trying to reach people on foot and by motorcycle, as many roads are impassable to larger vehicles.
