“No clear evidence” that £37 billion Test and Trace system cuts Covid infections in UK – BBC News

The UK government’s Test-and-Trace system, which is likely to cost the taxpayer £37 billion, has failed to prevent lockdowns and there is “no clear evidence” that it has cut the number of coronavirus infections.

Those are the findings of MPs on the Public Accounts Committee, which has published a highly critical report on scheme.

The MPs said the cost was “staggering” and that taxpayers were being treated like a cash machine. The Prime Minister Boris Johnson has defended the system.

Huw Edwards presents BBC News at Ten reporting by health editor Hugh Pym.
