The Nobel Peace Prize-winning journalist Maria Ressa has been acquitted of tax evasion charges by a court in Manila.
Her news site Rappler, which earned a reputation for its in-depth reporting and tough scrutiny of former President Rodrigo Duterte, was also cleared of tax evasion.
The Philippines’ National Union of Journalists said the tax evasion case reflected an increasing use of law for reprisal and intimidation against journalists and civil society.
