Thousands of families are attempting to flee Gaza City as the Israeli military confirmed it has begun ground operations that are part of its large-scale assault aimed at occupying the city.
The Israeli military said the city is "the main stronghold of Hamas at the moment”, as it confirmed a "gradual" movement into the Strip’s largest urban area.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to take control of Gaza City drew international criticism when he announced it last month.
