Thousands of Palestinians have been returning to their homes in northern Gaza after Israeli forces withdrew from a key militarised zone that had cut the territory in half.
Many of the returning people will find their homes reduced to rubble. Around 700,000 civilians fled their neighbourhoods at the time of Israel’s ground invasion of Gaza.
The northern part of the Gaza Strip had been cut off from the south by the Netzarim Corridor. The Israeli withdrawal from the strategically important road was agreed as part of the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.
