Philippines sees pandemic rise in child sex abuse – BBC News

The Philippines has now emerged as the world’s largest source of online child sexual exploitation.

Reported incidents in the country have risen by around 280 per cent this year, according to UNICEF, after one of the world’s longest pandemic lockdowns left vulnerable children at home.

More than 80% of those who sexually exploit children in the Philippines are their relatives, paid by people in the US, the UK, Europe and Australia.
