President Biden accuses Supreme Court of “devastating blow” against climate action – BBC News

President Biden has accused the US Supreme Court of dealing a “devastating blow” against efforts to tackle the climate crisis.

In a landmark ruling the court said the federal government in Washington does not have powers to regulate greenhouse gas emissions of US power plants. It means that policy can be decided by individual US states.

The case against the US Environmental Protection Agency was brought by West Virginia on behalf of 18 other mostly Republican-led states and some of the nation’s largest coal companies.

In a 6-3 ruling, the court sided with the conservative states and fossil-fuel companies.
