China’s President Xi Jinping has emphasised the need to strengthen national security, in his first address since being handed a historic third term as president.
Xi became China’s most powerful leader in generations last week when he was re-elected by the National People’s Congress for another five years.
The NPC also elected Li Qiang – one of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s most trusted allies, as the new premier over the weekend.
The world’s second-largest economy is still reeling from the effects of Beijing’s zero-Covid policy.
