Palestinians have begun marking Ramadan while fierce battles continue between Israeli forces and Hamas fighters in Gaza.
On Sunday evening, the sighting of the new moon marked the start of the Islamic holy month of fasting.
A ceasefire remains off the table as negotiations between Israel and Hamas have largely stalled.
Hamas has called for Palestinians to step up visits to al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
But Israel has accused Hamas of "striving to ignite the region during Ramadan".
