Russia has claimed that more then 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers have surrendered in the besieged port city of Mariupol.
But a top adviser to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky insists the city is still standing and some marines have joined another battalion.
Mariupol’s mayor has said 21,000 civilians have been killed during weeks of intense Russia bombardment, while 100,00 people are still waiting to be evacuated.
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of genocide in Ukraine. Mr Biden’s remarks have been called "unacceptable" by the Kremlin.
The BBC’s Dan Johnson reports from Lviv.
