Dopo la doppietta delle Rosse ad Austin, Carlos Sainz centra una strepitosa pole position, con il tempo di 1’15″946, davanti a Max Verstappen, secondo per 2 decimi. Terzo Lando Norris a 314 millesimi dallo spagnolo della Ferrari. Quarto il monegasco della Ferrari, Charles Leclerc, che scatterà, dunque, dalla seconda fila. Quinta e sesta le Mercedes di Russell e Lewis Hamilton. Settimo posto per Kevin Magnussen (Haas), ottavo Pierre Gasly, nono Alexander Albon (Williams), e decimo Nico Hulkenberg. “La Ferrari mi mette a mio agio, da parte mia da Austin in poi è stato fatto un grande passo in avanti e la pole mostra dei progressi. Per domani la priorità è portare entrambe le macchine al traguardo. Il Titolo costruttori è importante”, ha detto Sainz a fine qualifiche.
