Should humans be kind to AI machines? | BBC News

Donald Trump has vowed to overturn guidance on the safe development of artificial intelligence (AI). Trump’s promise echoes his party’s platform, which says that the executive order “hinders AI innovation”.

Outside the US, the Vatican and Microsoft have released a digital recreation of St. Peter’s Basilica created with AI.

Finally: should we be kind to AI? Since generative chatbots mirror human communication patterns, politeness toward chatbots tends to generate better responses. Moreover, AI company Anthropic hired an “AI welfare” researcher to analyse if its systems are becoming conscious.

The Context’s panel discusses these topics on this week’s AI Decoded.
