A rare red weather warning, meaning there is a danger to life, is in place for Scotland as Storm Éowyn batters the UK and Ireland.
The strongest gust recorded in the UK so far is 100mph in Drumalbin, Scotland where the effects of the storm have been described as “once in a generation”.
More than one million people have been left without power across the UK and Ireland, including 725,000 in the Republic of Ireland.
Travel disruption has been widespread, with roads blocked by fallen trees, flights cancelled and rail services halted.
