In Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, Russia has advanced swiftly in the past few months.
The frontline is now just outside the crucial transport hub of Pokrovsk, which just two months ago was considered a relatively safe place – its streets were lined with restaurants, cafes and markets, and soldiers would often visit for a break.
Now, it feels like a ghost town, as more than three-quarters of its population have left.
Fighting here is particularly intense, with the Ukrainian military reporting nearly 150 battles every day as it tries to stall Russia’s momentum.
From the frontline, the BBC’s Yogita Limaye reports with Imogen Anderson and Sanjay Ganguly.
